In May, we began cast-in-situ concrete works for the extension of the historic Kouvola swimming hall in Finland. The project is commissioned by Rakennusliike U. Lipsanen Oy and marks Maru Betoonitööd’s first collaboration with this general contractor, as well as a further step in expanding our geographical reach and client base in Finland.
Our scope includes over 3,000 m³ of cast-in-situ reinforced concrete structures: foundations, retaining walls, civil defence shelter, stairwells and lift shafts, the building’s structural frame, a full-length 50-metre indoor pool, and a smaller cold-water pool with associated structures. In addition, we are installing approximately 800 precast concrete elements, including columns, floor slabs, internal and external wall elements, and grandstand structures.
A distinctive feature of the project is the integration of the preserved section of the old swimming hall with the new extension, which includes a competition pool, multifunctional pool, and a 500-seat spectator area. While we have previously delivered both pool structures and public or sports facilities, Kouvola swimming hall is our first large-scale aquatic facility in Finland where we are delivering the structural concrete works as a turnkey service.
To ensure smooth project execution and reduce lifting and logistics-related risks in the confined site conditions, it was jointly decided with the general contractor that all concrete frame works will be carried out using a tower crane.
We thank the site team of Rakennusliike U. Lipsanen Oy for the good cooperation, as well as our partners Peri Suomi and Rudus.
